Where an Orange County employment case is heard
Orange County consolidates civil filings. The Superior Court’s Court Designation List states that limited and unlimited civil cases are heard at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, with complex civil matters heard at the Civil Complex Center.
In federal court, Orange County is the entire Southern Division of the Central District of California — 28 U.S.C. § 84 provides that “The Southern Division comprises Orange County. Court for the Southern Division shall be held at Santa Ana.” The courthouse is the Ronald Reagan Federal Building at 411 West 4th Street.
Our home county
Being based in the county matters more than it sounds: the venue for an Orange County employment claim is a short drive from our office rather than a regional calculation.
The county’s employment picture
Orange County’s economy is unusually mixed for a single county: life sciences and medical devices and software around Irvine, tourism and hospitality concentrated in Anaheim, civic and government employment in Santa Ana as the county seat, finance and professional services along the coast, and a substantial industrial base in Huntington Beach and Anaheim Canyon.
That mix shows up in the case types. Wage and hour issues look different in a hospitality workforce than in a salaried technology one, and misclassification arises differently again among contractors engaged by professional-services firms.
Every claim has deadlines, and some are short. We go over yours in the first conversation.
