A city with its own wage law
Most California wage claims rest on the Labor Code. In Anaheim, there may be a second layer.
Measure L was adopted by Anaheim voters in 2018. Whether it reaches a particular employer depends on the tax-rebate condition rather than simply on where the work happened.
We do not quote a current rate here, because the ordinance’s rate and coverage thresholds change and should be confirmed against the City’s own published figures at the time your claim is assessed. The point for now is narrower and more useful: if you worked in the Anaheim Resort area, there may be a local wage floor above the state one, and it is worth checking.
Where an Anaheim case is heard
At the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, like every other Orange County civil case. Federal claims go to the Southern Division courthouse, also in Santa Ana.
Working in Anaheim
Anaheim’s employment base splits between tourism, hospitality and conventions — the city-owned Anaheim Convention Center is described by the city as the largest on the West Coast — and a substantial industrial sector. Anaheim Canyon is described by the City as one of the leading industrial and innovation centers in California, covering advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defense, distribution and logistics, and biotechnology.
Hospitality and convention work produces a recognizable set of wage issues: shift scheduling, tipped and service-charge arrangements, on-call time, and meal and rest periods in operations that run continuously.
Every claim has deadlines, and some are short. We go over yours in the first conversation.
Questions people ask
Frequently asked questions
- Where is an Anaheim employment case heard?
- At the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, like every other Orange County civil case. Federal claims go to the Southern Division courthouse, which is also in Santa Ana.
- Does Anaheim have its own minimum wage?
- For some employers. Measure L, part of the Anaheim Municipal Code, requires Anaheim Resort employers that receive a city tax rebate to pay a local minimum wage on top of the state minimum. We do not quote its rate here, because the rate and the coverage thresholds change; they are confirmed against the City's own published figures when a claim is assessed.
- I work at a hotel in the Anaheim Resort. Does Measure L cover me?
- It depends on whether your employer receives a city tax rebate, not simply on where the work happened. If you worked in the Anaheim Resort area, there may be a local wage floor above the state one, and it is worth checking.
