About SoCo Law Firm

That is not a marketing line — it is a structural fact about how the firm works, and it means there is never a question about which side of a workplace dispute our interests sit on. Firms that act for both have to manage that tension. We do not have it.

Our founder

SoCo Law Firm was founded by Michael Chang, Esq., who previously served as staff counsel for a Fortune 500 company. Employment cases turn on a record the employer builds — and having worked on that side, he knows how that record gets assembled and where it is usually incomplete.

Because every employment situation is nuanced with its own particular facts, the firm crafts a real-world approach to preserve and enhance each client's needs.

The name

"SoCo" is South Coast in origin — the stretch of coast the firm grew up on — and it reads, deliberately, as Southern California in the broader sense. The practice is not limited to the coast.

How we charge

Consultations are free and confidential, and employment matters are handled on a contingency fee. If there is no recovery, nothing is owed. The fee agreement sets this out in writing before anything is filed.

Nothing is filed because you asked a question, and talking to us does not create an attorney–client relationship or commit you to anything. If we are not the right firm for your situation, we will say so.

Our office is in Costa Mesa, and we represent employees across five Southern California counties: Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, San Diego County.
