Lancaster Employment Lawyer

The Antelope Valley Courthouse in Lancaster is the one Los Angeles County courthouse outside downtown that handles a claimant's civil matter end to end without a trip to the Central District.

The Antelope Valley is treated differently

Most Los Angeles County communities send at least part of a civil matter downtown. Lancaster does not, and that is a real practical advantage.

The Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse at 42011 4th Street West is the only Superior Court location outside the Central District that Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) designates to receive unlimited civil personal-injury actions — and the Filing Court Locator routes Lancaster’s unlimited civil, family law and probate filings to it. By contrast, probate matters from Glendale, Pasadena and Long Beach all go downtown to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.

A Los Angeles County employment case may still optionally be filed in the Central District downtown under Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B). Federal claims go to the Western Division courthouses in downtown Los Angeles — which, from the Antelope Valley, is a significant journey and worth factoring into how a case is brought.

Working in Lancaster

Lancaster’s employment base is built on aerospace and defense, advanced manufacturing including aerospace components, technology, green technology and renewable energy, logistics and goods movement, and education and workforce training.

Aerospace and defense work raises issues that are less common elsewhere: security-clearance dependencies, classification of contract and staffing-agency personnel working alongside direct employees, and safety or compliance reporting in regulated environments — where what happens after a report can be a whistleblower claim in its own right.

Every claim has deadlines, and some are short. We go over yours in the first conversation.

Questions people ask

Frequently asked questions

Does my Lancaster case have to go downtown?
Not for filing. The Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse at 42011 4th Street West is the only Superior Court location outside the Central District that Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) designates to receive unlimited civil personal-injury actions, and the Filing Court Locator routes Lancaster's unlimited civil, family law and probate filings to it.
Can I choose to file downtown anyway?
Yes. Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B) lists employment cases among the matters that may optionally be filed in the Central District.
Where would a federal claim from Lancaster be heard?
In the Western Division of the Central District of California, whose courthouses are in downtown Los Angeles: the Mendez Courthouse at 350 West 1st Street and the Roybal Courthouse at 255 East Temple Street. From the Antelope Valley that is a significant journey, and worth factoring into how a case is brought.
I reported a compliance problem at an aerospace plant and was let go. Is that a whistleblower claim?
It may be. Labor Code § 1102.5 protects an employee who discloses information to a government agency, to a person with authority over the employee or to another employee with authority to investigate, when the employee has reasonable cause to believe it shows a violation, whether or not the disclosure is part of the job. Whether a termination that followed was retaliation turns on the facts.
