Employment and injury cases go to different courthouses
A small but genuinely useful distinction.
The Glendale Courthouse at 600 East Broadway is the unlimited-civil location for the Superior Court’s North Central District. Its entry in the Court’s own directory lists “Civil Unlimited [excluding Personal Injury PI cases]” among its services, and the Filing Court Locator returns it for every Glendale ZIP code.
The split comes from Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A), which pulls unlimited civil personal-injury actions out to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown. If you have been told where “your case” goes without anyone asking which kind of case it is, that is worth checking.
A Los Angeles County employment case may also optionally be filed in the Central District downtown under Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B). Federal claims go to the Western Division courthouses in downtown Los Angeles.
Working in Glendale
Glendale’s employment base covers health care, technology, entertainment, manufacturing, retail, and banking and finance, with the city separately targeting medical and biotechnology, gaming and cybersecurity as growth sectors.
Unlike Los Angeles, Long Beach and Pasadena, no citywide minimum wage ordinance was found for Glendale — so the state minimum applies unless a sector-specific rule reaches your role. If you work in Glendale but perform some hours inside Los Angeles city limits, the Los Angeles ordinance may apply to those hours; its two-hour trigger is low.
Every claim has deadlines, and some are short. We go over yours in the first conversation.
Questions people ask
Frequently asked questions
- Where is a Glendale employment case heard?
- At the Glendale Courthouse, 600 East Broadway, the unlimited-civil location for the Superior Court's North Central District. Its entry in the Court's directory lists Civil Unlimited, excluding personal injury cases, among its services, and the Filing Court Locator returns it for every Glendale ZIP code.
- Why would an injury case from Glendale go to a different courthouse?
- Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) sends unlimited civil personal-injury actions to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown, and the Glendale Courthouse's own listing excludes them. The same rule says a civil rights or discrimination action is not a personal-injury action for that purpose, so a discrimination claim stays with the employment track.
- Can I file my employment case downtown instead?
- Yes, by choice. Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B) lists employment cases among the matters that may optionally be filed in the Central District.
- Does Glendale have a city minimum wage?
- No citywide minimum wage ordinance was found for Glendale, so the state minimum applies unless a sector-specific rule reaches your role. If some of your hours are worked inside Los Angeles city limits, the Los Angeles ordinance may apply to those hours: it covers anyone who performs at least two hours of work in a week within that city, at $18.42 per hour effective July 1, 2026.
