San Bernardino Employment Lawyer

San Bernardino has been the county seat since 1854, and its civil division takes unlimited civil filings from essentially every community in the county.

The county’s civil center

That routing comes from the Superior Court’s venue tables, which send unlimited civil filings to the Civil Division of the San Bernardino District.

Only three San Bernardino County Superior Court locations accept filings labeled “Civil (limited and unlimited)” — the Civil Divisions of the San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga and Victorville Districts. Several other courthouses are closer to particular cities but do not take civil filings; the Fontana District, for instance, accepts only small claims, limited landlord-tenant and similar matters. The nearest courthouse is often not the right one.

Federal claims go to the Eastern Division of the Central District of California, at the George E. Brown, Jr. Federal Building, 3470 Twelfth Street, Riverside.

Working in San Bernardino

The county seat’s civic concentration shows in the employment data. Public administration accounted for 14.1 percent of the roughly 98,754 jobs located in the city, and was the highest-paying sector by average salary per job. The largest sector was education and health care combined at 34.9 percent, followed by leisure and hospitality at 10.7 percent and retail at 9 percent.

(Those figures come from SCAG’s Local Profiles reporting 2017 data — the most recent city-level, worksite-based breakdown available from a government source. They predate the region’s post-2020 warehousing expansion, so treat them as structure rather than a current count. SCAG’s “education” category includes hospitals, outpatient care, nursing and social assistance, not only schools.)
