San Diego Employment Attorney

A very large share of San Diego's workforce is in defense-adjacent contracting, shipbuilding and federal-facing employment — the City rates the region first in the world for its concentration of military and defense assets.

Where a San Diego case is heard

San Diego Superior Court routes unlimited civil filings to a single downtown location, the Hall of Justice in the Central Division. Case assignment within the county works by ZIP code under the court’s own form, so we confirm the specific assignment for your address rather than assume it.

San Diego is also the only county we serve that is not in the Central District of California. Federal claims go to the Southern District of California, San Diego Division, whose courthouses are the James M. Carter and Judith N. Keep United States Courthouse at 333 W. Broadway and the Edward J. Schwartz United States Courthouse at 221 W. Broadway.

Working in San Diego

The City’s Economic Development office, the source of the defense ranking at the top of this page, describes San Diego as “the eighth-largest city in the United States and the second-largest in California.”

Beside that work, which includes ship repair as well as shipbuilding, the workforce has a substantial civilian base in health care, higher education, life sciences and biotechnology, tourism and hospitality, and professional services.

Defense-adjacent work raises its own employer questions. Contractor and subcontractor arrangements affect who the employer actually is. Security clearances can be entangled with employment decisions in ways that are hard to separate.
